How does Google Voice Work?

Google Voice is a voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) phone service that was founded in 2009. You can use the service to make and receive phone calls, as well as send text messages.

  7. Enter the phone number that Google Voice and select Send Code.
  8. Check your phone for the text message from Google and enter the code.
  9. Select Verify to confirm option.
  10. Choose Claim to confirm.
  11. Use the Finish button to finish setting up Google Voice.
  12. Click on the Finish option again.

  1. Open your Google Voice settings from the three-dotted menu button.
  2. With the Phone numbers tab selected, locate the Linked numbers section of the settings.
  3. Tap New linked number under your existing phone number.
  4. Enter the phone number that should accept Google Voice calls, and select Send Code, or Call.
  5. Enter the code you received over text or heard over the phone call.
  6. Return to the Google Voice settings page from step 1 and open the Calls tab.
  7. Put a check in the box next to each number that should ring when a call comes through your Google Voice number.

  4. Review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and then tap Continue.
